Heidi is a little girl with no parents. She goes to live with her aunt, Dete. But Dete is busy and takes Heidi to her grandfather in the mountains. Heidi is happy there. She plays outside and meets Peter, a boy with goats. Later, Dete takes Heidi to Frankfurt to live with Klara. Heidi learns to read, but she misses the mountains.
